It all started in 2020, when my family and I received some bad news. Aunt Lisa, who I affectionately referred to as my “second mom,” wasn’t doing well. She had been diagnosed with colon cancer years earlier and it was spreading.
I felt powerless. Lisa—kind, beautiful, and full-of-life—was only 47 years old, mothering two preteens. I couldn’t imagine her leaving this Earth. It didn’t make sense.
The COVID-19 pandemic had health on all of our minds, but I found myself increasingly curious about ways to care for Lisa and her children, especially during the end of her life.
I work as a pediatric speech-language pathologist in a public school. My job allows me the gift of spending one-on-one time with children and their parents as we navigate the journey toward joyful communication. Due to my newfound interest in all things wellness, I began noticing patterns at work that I’d never picked up on before.
These children were tired, absent frequently, sick often, couldn’t focus, and irritable in ways that hindered their school friendships. I started to wonder if we were failing to see the whole picture.
I sprung into action. I wanted to help families get healthy—inside and out! I wanted to do it for Aunt Lisa and her kids, my students, my siblings, my parents, and for myself.
That’s when Good JuJu Nutrition was born. I am a Certified Transformational Nutrition Coach who understands how difficult it is for busy families to take the first leap toward healing their relationships with food, movement, one another, and nature.
So many of us have no idea where to start. It’s easy to get lost in the tidal wave of information online—the recommendations and recipes and workouts. At Good JuJu Nutrition, I take things slow. I believe that every family is different and that my job is to help you discover your personal needs, obstacles, and goals.
I include everyone in the process, from the grandparents to the little ones! Nutrition can be fun, especially when we’re all involved.
To this day, my large family is tight-knit and there’s nothing we love more than laughing together in the kitchen.
With a background in special education, I’m familiar working with kids who have intellectual disabilities, ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities. I am passionate about removing the barriers to a healthy life. Health is for everyone.
